Terms of Service
Last updated: October 27, 2026
These Terms govern your use of ALTON, an online SAT self-study service operated by Alton Education LLC (“ALTON”, “we”, “us”). By creating an account or using the service you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy.
1. Who can use ALTON
ALTON is for students preparing for the SAT. You must be at least 13 years old. If you are under 18, you confirm that a parent or legal guardian has reviewed these Terms and the Privacy Policy and permits you to use ALTON. We do not knowingly allow children under 13 to create accounts; if we learn that a child under 13 has an account, we will delete it.
You need an account to use ALTON. One account is for one student. Do not share your account, and do not let anyone else study under it.
2. What ALTON provides
ALTON provides a diagnostic test, a personalized study plan, short lessons, practice questions, a mistake notebook, a vocabulary notebook, and full-length SAT-style practice tests. ALTON is an independent study product. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the College Board; “SAT” is a registered trademark of the College Board.
Practice scores, estimates and study plans are educational guidance, not predictions or promises of an official score. Our content is written and checked with the help of automated tools and may contain mistakes. You can report a problem on any question, and we will review it.
3. Free use and paid plans
Every account can use a free allowance without a card: one diagnostic, study Days 1–3, and one full-length practice test. Starting Day 4 or a second full-length test requires a paid plan.
Paid plans are monthly, quarterly, or annual subscriptions. Prices are shown before you pay and are charged in US dollars. Payments are processed by Stripe; we never see or store your full card number.
Automatic renewal. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period (monthly, every 3 months, or yearly) at the price shown at checkout, until you cancel. You can cancel at any time in the billing portal (Account → Manage billing). If you cancel, you keep access until the end of the period you already paid for, and you will not be charged again.
Failed payments. If a renewal payment fails, we may retry it and give a short grace period. If it is not paid, paid features stop and your history stays viewable.
Price changes. We will tell you before a price change applies to your next renewal.
Taxes. Prices may be shown before applicable sales tax, VAT or similar taxes; any tax charged is shown at checkout.
4. Paying for someone else (parent or guardian payment)
A student can send a parent or guardian a one-time payment link. The link expires, can be replaced by a newer one, and works for one checkout. A guardian who pays does not need an ALTON account and does not get access to the student’s learning data through the link. The paid plan belongs to the student’s account. The payer manages billing (for example, cancelling or reviewing receipts) through the billing portal link sent by Stripe.
5. Refunds
Except for the score guarantee below and where the law requires otherwise, payments are not refundable and we do not give partial refunds for unused time. Cancel before your renewal date to avoid the next charge.
6. Score improvement guarantee
If you complete the program as described here and your score does not improve as required, you can ask for a refund of the subscription fees you paid for the qualifying three-month period. To qualify, all of the following must be true:
- Your starting score is an official Digital SAT score of 1250 or lower, taken within the 3 months before you subscribed and before purchase, and you submit that official score report within the first 7 days of your paid subscription. ALTON’s own diagnostic does not count as a starting score.
- You hold a continuous paid subscription for at least 90 days. Free-allowance days are not counted. A monthly plan qualifies after 3 consecutive paid months; quarterly and annual plans cover the period.
- During the qualifying period you complete at least 500 practice questions (first attempts, not skipped) and at least 10 full-length practice tests.
- You review your mistakes: at least 90% of the wrong answers you made in the qualifying period reach the resolved state in your mistake notebook.
- You take the first official Digital SAT within 60 days after your subscription ends, and your official score is not at least 200 points higher than your starting score.
- You send your claim within 30 days of that official test date, with your name, your account email, and both official score reports (before purchase and after) showing your name and the test date.
- The account was used only by you, and you studied in good faith. We may review account activity (such as sign-in times, the number of simultaneous sessions, and answer timing) to check this. Account sharing, rushing to meet quotas, or fraud voids the guarantee.
Amount. The refund is the subscription fees you actually paid for the qualifying three-month period, including the tax we charged on that amount. For an annual plan it is 3/12 of the annual payment, and the subscription ends when the claim is approved. It does not include exam registration fees, books, or other third-party costs. Each student account and each payer can receive one guarantee refund. After a guarantee refund, we may pause re-subscription for a period.
We decide claims after reviewing the records above and may ask for more information. A decision is sent to you by email.
7. Your content and our content
ALTON’s lessons, questions, explanations, and software belong to ALTON or its licensors. We give you a personal, non-transferable licence to use them for your own study. You may not copy, scrape, resell, publish, or share them, or use them to build another product or train a model.
What you write in ALTON (answers, notes, vocabulary entries) is yours. You allow us to store and process it to run the service and to improve ALTON in an aggregated, non-identifying way.
8. Acceptable use
Do not break or probe the service, bypass limits or the paywall, create multiple accounts to repeat the free allowance, use bots, or upload anything unlawful. We may suspend or close accounts that do.
9. Ending your account
You can stop using ALTON at any time. You can delete your account and data yourself from your Account page (it takes effect after a 7-day window in which you can change your mind), or email official@alton.education from your account address. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these Terms; if we close a paid account without cause, we refund the unused part of the current period.
10. Disclaimers and liability
ALTON is provided “as is” and “as available”. We do not promise uninterrupted service or that any result will be achieved, except the guarantee in section 6. To the extent the law allows, ALTON is not liable for indirect or consequential losses, and our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these Terms limits rights you have under law that cannot be limited.
11. Changes, law, and contact
We may update these Terms. If a change is material, we will tell you by email or in the app before it applies to you. Continuing to use ALTON after the change means you accept it. These Terms are governed by the laws of the state in which Alton Education LLC is organized, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, and disputes will be heard in the courts of that state, unless the law of your home country gives you mandatory rights to bring a claim elsewhere.
